2009 Mercedes-Benz CLC Class Sports Coupe




Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the official pictures of the new C Class Sport Coupe, or also known as the CLC. The Mercedes-Benz CLC Class Sports Coupe is the hatchback version of the Mercedes C-Class. According to the press release, the Mercedes engineers have newly developed or enhanced over 1100 components on the Sport Coupe.

Among the features of the CLC are distinctive coupe radiator grille featuring a large Mercedes star in the center, new projection-beam headlamps, boot with up to 1100 litres of luggage capacity, new tail lights, third brake light unit from the long row of LEDs.

There is a sports package prepared by Mercedes-Benz for the CLC which includes 18-inch light-alloy wheels, wide-base tires, headlamps with black inner surrounds, sports suspension with lowered body, leather sports steering wheel, dark brushed aluminium trim elements, instrument cluster with red needles for the speedometer and rev counter. Standard for the sports package includes a new direct-steer system.

At the interior, the Mercedes-Benz CLC features sports seats, a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel, automatic climate control and brushed aluminium trim elements. Customers have the option to choose their own seat covers such as black, alpaca grey and combination of black and red color scheme.

Mercedes-Benz also offers 6 powerplants for the Mercedes-Benz CLC Class Sports Coupe which are four 4-cylinder and two 6-cylinder engines with power outputs ranging from 90 kW/122 hp to 200 kW/272 hp. The 135 kW/184 hp CLC 200 KOMPRESSOR now produces an extra 15 kW/20 hp while consuming just 7.8 to 8.2 liter per 100 km in the NEDC cycle (equivalent of up to 0.7 liter less than before).

With regard to fuel consumption, the CLC 200 CDI consume 5.8 to 6.1 liter per 100 km in the NEDC cycle, 10.8 % less than the outgoing model. The CDI models could go up to 1000 km with a full tank (62 liter).

The standard transmission for all the models is a 6-speed manual transmission but a 5-speed automatic transmission is available for the 4 cylinder units, and meanwhile the 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission is available for the V6 models. Gearshift paddles is available at the the steering wheel to select the gears of the automatic transmission manually.

The Mercedes-Benz CLC Class Sports Coupe will be available for public viewing for the first time at the European Mercedes sales and service outlets and authorised dealerships in May 2008.
